Paintings

In contrast to the precision and order required to design and build a house, my paintings are a spontaneous expression of the nonspecific, the subliminal, the subconscious.  Their intention is to evoke response, questions.

When I am the most open, the most receptive, is when I am truly able to paint.  Painting for me is about showing up—about being present.  It’s about being with the canvas so magic can happen.  The paint flows like the words of a poet.  The colors are my poetry.  Big bold colors.

Layers coincide with layers.
Wet meets wet.
Dry holds wet.
Wet scrapes dry.

Colors mix wet on the canvas very differently than when they are mixed before applying.

I am fascinated by the subconscious response we have to subtle color change in our environment.

The canvas guides me.
